On the April 7 edition of Monday Night Raw we witnessed a surprising turn of events; as NXT Women's Champion Paige, pinned AJ Lee in her debut to become the Diva's Champion.
The 21-year-old's victory doesn't just put an end to AJ's record-breaking reign as Diva's Champion but it spells out a new era for the WWE; Paige's victory solidified NXT's dominance as well as its relevance.
It's almost time for the old guard to start fading towards the back whilst the new era of superstars take over and carry the WWE. At one stage fans believed NXT wouldn't produce anyone of relevance, much like Tough Enough which failed to create any lasting superstars or divas.
But they were wrong, NXT has managed to become one of the best shows the WWE produce, and at times many believe it eclipses Monday Night Raw with the wrestling they showcase.
So just how has NXT taken over? Start from the beginning where the likes of Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan and Ryback were competing in The Nexus; no faction made a debut like that and they never will. Although Bryan was not part of the faction for long it didn't matter as Barrett carried that group like a true no-nonsense leader. Wade Barrett now goes by the name of Bad News Barrett and at first his gimmick was seen as a waste of potential, but I've got some good news as this gimmick is really growing on everyone.
The SHIELD didn't team together from day one, they competed individually. Rollins and Ambrose had their own feud in FCW before it was rebranded as NXT Wrestling whilst Roman Reigns went by the moniker Leakee. Rollins became the first NXT Champion after winning the Gold Rush tournament and the rest is history, one of the greatest teams in history have captured the United States and Tag Team Championships and have been involved in some big storylines, and are certainly main event superstars when they eventually disband.
NXT is no stranger to creating superstars or even teams, after Husky Harris failed to make a lasting impact on the main roster he was sent back to developmental and whoever made that call deserves applause. Repackaging Harris as Bray Wyatt was a genius move and it allowed his creativity and his charisma to be showcased on the big stage. Bringing in experienced wrestlers in Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, who were just as impressive in NXT, helped Bray come across as a true leader. Now we have seen them take on the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, The SHIELD and now Bray Wyatt managed to lure John Cena into the ring at WrestleMania, they has shown just how far NXT has come.
All you need to do is take a look at the champions right now in the WWE; Paige is holding the Diva's Championship as she beat AJ Lee - also from NXT. Dean Ambrose is the Unites States Champion whilst Big E is holding the Intercontinental Championship. We definitely don't need reminding who the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is.
The same night Paige won the Diva's Championship we also saw the devastating debut of 'The Bulgarian Brute' Alexander Rusev who has been highly praised. Whereas the WWE also aired two different vignettes for two NXT superstars.
Bo Dallas, real-life brother of Bray Wyatt; and Adam Rose will both be jumping to the main roster in the near future.
Fans will always complain about CM Punk walking out of the company but the truth is the real talent is competing in NXT, with many more talents such as Sami Zayn and Enzo Amore making an impact the future looks bright for the WWE.
