Manchester City: Fernandinho
That Fernandinho is an unsung hero despite costing Manchester City £35m last summer is quite a feat.
Yet more should be made about the Brazilian’s outstanding performances this season. In many ways he has been the Citizens’ best player this term.
That statement might sound a little ridiculous considering his midfielder partner Yaya Toure has scored a magnificent 21 goals from 42 matches, but the Ivory Coast international wouldn’t have half that tally to his name if it wasn’t for Fernandinho, who has done most of Toure’s donkey work in the middle of the pitch over recent months.
If Manchester City win the Premier League title next month then Fernandinho would have played an integral role - and would have paid back every penny of that monstrous transfer fee.
