Southampton defender Luke Shaw, a self confessed Chelsea fan as well as a transfer target for the Blues, was in celebratory mood on Tuesday night after watching Jose Mourinho’s side reach the last four of the Champions League.
Chelsea needed a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge to ensure their progress past Paris Saint-Germain without the requirement of extra time, and achieved precisely that to move Mourinho into a record-breaking eighth successive semi-final.
Andre Schurrle, on as an early substitute for Eden Hazard, scored the opener for Chelsea in the first-half before Demba Ba - one of three strikers on the field - was able to net the decisive second with only three minutes remaining.
Ba’s goal sent the Chelsea faithful into raptures as they edged one step closer to the final of the Champions League, and Shaw tweeted “Come onnnn” to express his delight after watching his side capture a memorable victory.
The 18-year-old Southampton full-back has been linked with a £30 million transfer to Chelsea having established himself as one of the most exciting young English talents for a number of years. Shaw is in contention to go to the World Cup this summer, and is being earmarked by Chelsea as a long-term replacement for Ashley Cole.
