Chelsea’s Champions League hero Demba Ba has retaliated to Jose Mourinho’s claim that Chelsea have no ‘real striker’, following his late, winning strike against PSG which sent the Blues into the Champions League semi-final.
Mourinho has recently bemoaned his club’s lack of goals, with the blame falling squarely on the shoulders of his strikeforce, with Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba under close scrutiny.
But Ba, who has scored six goals in 23 appearances this season, believes that this criticism is unfair.
“We have three great strikers and I think that a lot of clubs would like to have them," said the Senegalese striker, who went on to claim that perhaps Mourinho “doesn’t have strikers to his liking”.
However, the former Newcastle man, who replaced Frank Lampard after 66 minutes pointed out that he was happy to have played a part for Chelsea.
"I'm happy to have liberated us. I haven't been given my chance much this season and I've taken it. I'm not out for revenge."
Mourinho himself was delighted with the performance of Demba Ba, who has been a bit-part player since his move from Newcastle in 2013.
"I'm happy for him. A good guy, a good professional, a good group man," said the Portuguese manager.
“His enthusiasm was fantastic and he started giving Paris problems that, normally, they don't have in their league where it's a completely different style. I'm so happy he scored the goal because it means a lot for him and a lot for us.”
Ba’s late winner meant that Mourinho has now achieved a record of reaching eight Champions League semi-finals and raised hopes among Chelsea fans that they could repeat their success of 2012 when they beat Bayern Munich to win the coveted competition.
