As is always the case at this particular time of the season, the eyes of Europe were fixated upon the Champions League this week as the all-important quarter-final second-legs took place.

On Tuesday night, Chelsea defied the odds in superbly entertaining style, booking their place in the final four with a last-gasp second goal - secured via the unlikely source of Demba Ba - against Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere that night, Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund - beaten finalists in last year's Champions League, of course - almost overturned a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Real Madrid but eventually fell agonisingly short of the target.

On Wednesday, Manchester United gave a mostly positive account of themselves before succumbing to the might of Bayern Munich inside the impressive Allianz Arena while Barcelona suffered elimination at the hands of domestic rivals Atletico Madrid.

So, with the quarter-finals now completed and the keenly-anticipated semi-final draw to come on Friday, GMS takes a look at the most important players from the four teams left in the Champions League and just who could have the biggest role to play in ensuring that their respective clubs go on and reach the final.
