ALEX HALES vs Sri Lanka:

The one real positive that England can take from their group stage exit at the World T20
was the fact that they beat the eventual champions, Sri Lanka.

Alex Hales scored only the 11th century in an International Twenty20 match to help Ashley Giles’ side successfully chase down their 190 target.

An immaculate and unbeaten knock of 116 from the opener was imperative to the victory. England lost their opening two wickets without troubling the scorers, so Eoin Morgan strode to the crease at 0-2.

But a 152-run partnership between Hales and the former Ireland international helped the Three Lions to victory, a result that has been hard to come by since their appalling Ashes adventure.

Hales hit 11 fours and six maximums in his innings, keeping his wicket intact for the duration of England’s 19.2 overs. It was an effort that kept his side alive in the tournament, but consecutive losses to South Africa and the Netherlands would send them home before the semi-finals.
