AS Roma are headed to Disney World, Florida this summer but they won't be on holiday.
Francesco Totti, Danielle De Rossi and co will be taking on MLS' newest side - Orlando City SC - in a pre-season friendly that has been pencilled in for May 23rd at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort.
This is the second playing of the friendly after Roma - who have a partnership with Disney - came to the States in 2013 to play OCSC and then provide opposition for the MLS All-Star game.
“AS Roma are one of the top clubs in the world and we are delighted to have them back in Florida again,” said Orlando City President Phil Rawlins. “I know our fans will enjoy seeing The Lions take on a world class team like Roma.”
The Wide World of Sports field, where Orlando play their home matches, is also home to the infamous Jon Gruden's QB Camps where he interrogates quarterbacks of that years NFL draft.
The Lions were awarded their place as an MLS side last year and will be entering the league in 2015.
Rumours abound that the sides first Designated Player will be the former Real Madrid and current AC Milan star Kaka. The clubs owner is Brazilian and apparently knows the midfielder well, as well as the fact that Kaka wishes to move to Orlando with his family.
The team have a rival side already in David Beckham's Miami franchise. After their being no MLS side in the state, it now has two and they are set for some epic battles in the coming years.
“We are very happy to return to Orlando this year,” said AS Roma CEO Italo Zanzi. “We look forward to an exciting match with Orlando City- it will be a great compliment to our training at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.”
