Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has become a father for the first time after announcing on Facebook that his wife, Melanie Slade, gave birth to a boy on Thursday.
The Daily Star reports how the 25-year-old England international, who is set to miss this summer's World Cup in Brazil through injury, broke news on the social media site, and expressed delight on behalf of both mother and baby.
"So over the moon to announce the birth of our baby boy Finley born this morning… It's amazing to be mummy & daddy! Love him so much x," he wrote.
The childhood sweethearts were wed in Tuscany, Italy last summer, nine years after they first met at a shopping centre in Southampton where the Gunners star first made his breakthrough.
Walcott's new found fathering duties should help take his mind off the disappointment of missing a major tournament with the Three Lions, as he continues his rehabilitation from the injury suffered in Arsenal's FA Cup third round win over north London rivals in January.
The wide-man is hoping to be back in contention for Arsene Wenger's side by the time pre-season starts in July, and has set his sights on a first-team comeback by the start of 2014/15.
