The WWE will not air a John Cena promo on tonight's Smackdown broadcast out of respect for the Ultimate Warrior after the legendary wrestler passed away this week.
The promo video, which was used in this week's Smackdown show, reportedly involved John Cena conducting an interview in the style of the Ultimate Warrior in which several jokes were made at the former wrestler's expense.
The segment had been filmed prior to the news of the Ultimate Warriors death earlier this week, and was shown to Smackdown's live audience.
But the organization has chosen to remove it from Friday's official broadcast out of respect to the Ultimate Warrior according to ewrestlingnews.com.
While the tone of the promo was clearly in jest, the organization obviously felt that it would be in bad taste to show Cena mocking the Ultimate Warrior given the current circumstances.
The wrestling world has been quick to pay tribute to the Ultimate Warrior following the news.
Triple H was amongst those to comment:
“Saddened to announce the passing of the Ultimate Warrior. Icon and friend. My sympathy to his wife Dana and his daughters” he wrote on Twitter.
