Minnesota Wild Forward Mike Rupp has been banned for four games after his illegal check to the head of St Louis Blues Forward and USA Olympic hero T.J. Oshie.

During Thursday nights showdown between the two teams, Rupp drove his shoulder through the head of Oshie after the Blues Forward had already released the puck.

Minnesota went on to win the match 4-2 thanks to two goals from Kyle Broziak and one each from Nino Niederreiter and Matt Moulson.

Rupp will now be suspended without pay for four games which will include the Wild's final regular season game with the Nashville Predators on Sunday.

Not only will he miss the game with Nashville but Rupp will miss Minnesota's first three play-off games.

Rupp will also surrender over $7,000 to the Players Emergency Assistance fund and has no doubt left his team in a tricky position for the play-offs.
