Tim Sherwood has questioned the club’s recruitment policy in the summer transfer window of last year, with the club having signed seven players without a single minute of Premier League experience. Spurs spent £110.5 million on new players last summer, all coming from overseas leagues.

Atletico Madrid’s insistence that Thibaut Courtois will player against Chelsea in their Champions League semi-final meeting is likely to dash the club’s chances of signing the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

Courtois is in his third season on loan at the Vicente Calderon, and Atletico are required to pay Chelsea around €6 million in order to use the Belgian against his employers. But Atletico are looking for ways to get round this, and still be able to play the 21-year-old.
