Benfica have told Liverpool they must pay £30million if they want to sign Lazar Markovic this summer, who has also attracted additional interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
According to the Sunday People, the 20-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a move away from Estadio da Luz, but could be priced out of a prospective transfer because of the huge valuation placed on his head.
Reds officials are already understood to have held talks with Markovic's representatives about the possibility of joining Brendan Rodgers's Anfield revolution next season, having been identified as a top target for the 2014/15 campaign.
Liverpool are still in contention to win the Premier League title, and are almost certain to return to the Champions League next season, which could prove decisive in convincing the Serbian starlet to transfer to Merseyside.
Chelsea could still rival Liverpool for Markovic's signature, though, with Jose Mourinho also believed to be monitoring the player's development in Portugal as he weighs up a bid of his own to lure the youngster to Stamford Bridge.
Previous reports had suggested that the Blues had already negotiated a deal for the Benfica star, but Liverpool are now confident that is not the case, and still have a chance of securing his services when the transfer window reopens this summer.
