Tottenham's Lamela to miss rest of the season

Tottenham's record signing Erik Lamela will miss the rest of the season - Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has revealed, according to the Independent.

He also mentioned that fellow signing Etienne Capoue was also likely to play no further part.

The news is little surprise after Lamela's long-term injury has left him out and has meant he hasn't played at all in 2014, with the 3-0 win over Stoke being his last appearance, back in December.

Sherwood expressed his disappointment, saying;'He's been unfortunate with injuries and it's a shame that he's picked up the knocks because taking the settling in period aside, how are you meant to settle when you can't go out there and perform because you've had this serious back injury?'

Lamela has had a lacklustre start to life at White Hart Lane after his costly arrival in the summer - one of seven players signed with the world-record fee received for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.

He has scored just one goal this season, in the Europa League against FC Sheriff, and although he has shown promise, his serious injury has left him on the sidelines and he has not been able to live up to his fee.

Sherwood remains positive, but Lamela's season looks to be at an end. Spurs fans will be hoping that 2014/2015 will be the winger's time to shine.
