Despite falling victim to the world’s greatest squad, Bayern Munich; Manchester United are finally looking a little more confident, especially at Old Trafford.
But for many United fans, the optimism never dies. Many consider fourth still a target. I believe it’s vital, for the long-term advantage of Manchester United, that we do not replace optimism with delusion.
Fourth, I believe, is off the cards this season. With Everton and Arsenal going to battle for the last Champions League spot. It’d take a miracle: for United to catch up with Everton, who are nine points clear.
But it looks inevitable for the Red Devils to finish in the Europa League spots. Which cost Liverpool, potentially, so long of Premier League success.
The extra six group stage games, and qualification rounds are an unnecessary distraction; a competition which I’m sure the fans would happily miss out on, for the squad to be more concentrated and focused on the Premier League - and finishing in the top four next season.
Finish out of the top four, but have a good Europa League campaign?
It’s a stupid question.
