Barcelona players and management faced raucous abuse from disgruntled fans following their return at the Nou Camp after a 1-0 defeat away to Granada.
Tata Martino could well end this season in charge trophy-less following their recent exit in the Champions League to fellow league rivals Atletico Madrid. It is the first time that the Catalans are not a member of the final four since 2007. They sit four points adrift of Atletico at the top and face Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey final on Wednesday evening.
Fans vented their anger at the side by reportedly shouting "you should be ashamed" and that "you're a waste of space." The fans are used to non stop success after current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola left the club, winning 14 trophies in his four years in charge.
Martino had given the players a day off, but some players chose to report to training anyway ahead of this week's massive cup final.
After a relatively poor start to the season, Barca looked to have stemmed the tide at the turn of the new year. However, summer signing Neymar JR has muddied the waters further after it was unveiled where the fee went.
On top of this, Barca were handed a transfer ban a fortnight ago for breaching the rules on signing players under the age of 18. Their pristine reputation had been left in tatters, and following the downturn in fortunes this season amongst rumoured retirements and players expressing a desire to leave the club, their season doesn't look like turning around anytime soon.
