Liverpool could be beaten to the signing of Lucas Digne this summer, with reports suggesting that Valencia are targeting a loan swoop for the Paris Saint-Germain defender.
This is according to talkSPORT, who suggest that the La Liga outfit are waiting in the wings for a temporary switch for Digne and that PSG could be set to sanction such a deal.
20-year-old Digne - a French full-back with one senior international cap to his name that was picked up during the friendly against the Netherlands last month - only joined the Ligue 1 champions from domestic rivals Lille last summer yet has struggled to nail down a regular first-team berth at the Parc des Princes.
Liverpool and Arsenal were both believed to hold an interest in the player around the time that he opted to move to PSG and speculation over recent months had suggested that the former were still interested in Digne.
Brendan Rodgers' side - who beat Manchester City 3-2 at Anfield on Sunday to confirm their status as unlikely title favourites heading into the last four games of the Premier League season - have been mightily impressive this season, yet don't appear to possess the defensive capabilities necessary to compete sufficiently on the elite European stage.
And with first-choice Jose Enrique having been out since November with a troublesome knee problem and back-up Aly Cissokho having failed to impose himself after a summer loan move, it is likely that Liverpool will be on the lookout for a new left-back when the transfer market re-opens in a few months time.
As a young and talented individual who is perhaps not receiving as much first-team attention as he would like, Digne would appear to fit that particular bill quite nicely.
However, it would appear that they Liverpool could be on the verge of losing out as Valencia prepare to make their own move for his services.
