Phil Jones' Q&A session on Twitter backfired this afternoon when fans hit out at the central-defender for a number of different reasons.

As reported by The Daily Star, the Red Devils ace - who has had an indifferent season - was the subject of a social media storm as a number of fans slammed the England international.

Jones signed for Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, but has struggled to find his best form this season.

In truth, a lack of opportunities in his most natural position of centre-back have disrupted his progress this season. Additionally, the 22-year-old has also spent time on the sidelines throughout the campaign.

And, as this has coincided with Manchester United's nightmare season, many fans have taken it out on the defender.

Some of the tweets, hit out at Jones' Manchester United teammates, with others questioning just how Jones has become a professional footballer.

Of course, it must be mentioned that a lot of the wrath Jones has faced may well have come from opposition fans and it remains to be seen as to which questions are answered by the Manchester United man.

The Daily Star have recorded some of the best tweets here.
