Chief sponsor of the Premier League, Barclays, have conducted a revolutionary experiment measuring the heart-rates of fans and legends of the English top-flight.
The experiment named #YouAreFootball measured the heart-rates of 100 fans during a critical 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Manchester City. As well as Liverpool's convincing 4-0 win over Tottenham, and was filmed in four cities across the UK and South Africa.
By conducting the experiment, Barclays found that the average heart rate increased by 215.5 percent during the celebration of a goal. In contrast, during the stress of conceding a goal, the average heart rate jumped to 145.5 percent.
The fans of the clubs involved were joined by former players, with Robert Pires and Shaun Goater rigged up for the clash at the Emirates Stadium. Whereas, fans of Liverpool and Tottenham watched on alongside, John Aldridge and Garry Mabbutt.
To repay the amount of support from fans across the country during this year's Premier League campaign, Barclays initiated this experiment as part of their 'Thank You' campaign. In turn learning the range of emotions a fan goes through during a typical Premier League fixture.
The experiment was conducted over the weekend of March 29/30 either on fans watching from the Emirates, a Manchester or Liverpool pub, or at the Barclays Premier League Live fan park, in Johannesburg.
