MLS Commissioner, Don Garber has previously said that 24 would be the upper limit for teams in the league and naturally there are a number of cities interested in landing the team.
However, a group led by the Minnesota NFL team are stepping up their attempts to bring the team to Minneapolis.
Vikings' vice-president of public affairs, Lester Bagley said: “We’ve been stepping up our conversations with the MLS. There are definitely others interested in the market.”
Minnesota could offer another northern based franchise to the league, alongside recent additions from Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle and Montreal.
They could also a new indoor stadium which is set to be opened in 2016. The stadium could be expanded to hold up to 73,000.
According to the report, there are other groups within the Minnesota area who are also attempting to bring an MLS team to the region.
