Lee Westwood is hopeful he can put another Major near-miss behind him by winning this week's Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

Westwood flew straight from Georgia after finishing seventh in the Masters at the weekend, and posted a first round score of -7 to finish Day 1 at the top of the leaderboard.

Dan Carter has described how Jonny Wilkinson - "the ultimate professional" - inspired him to climb to the summit of world rugby.

The 100-cap New Zealand fly-half admitted that Wilkinson set new standards on and off the pitch, paying tribute to the England World Cup winner who is set to retire in the summer after 17 years in the professional game.

Dereck Chisora says he has the skills to outbox Tyson Fury when the two meet in July in an all-British final eliminator for the World Boxing Organisation heavyweight championship.

The duo clash at Manchester's Phones 4U arena on July 26, with the prize for the winner a world-title shot at Wladimir Klitschko.

And finally in Formula 1, Fernando Alonso has admitted there will be no quick fix for Ferrari in the wake of team boss Stefano Domenicali's departure.

Alonso also warned F1's most famous marque are likely to remain uncompetitive until at least the second half of the 2014 campaign.
