The miserable start to the nightmare week was due to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Barcelona’s fans anticipated nothing less than the treble. Yet such high expectations are always deemed a normality by the supporters, and rightly so.

But this season will be the first in many of which Barcelona will have nothing to show for. Yes, one season in Barcelona without a major trophy is a gigantic catastrophe.

Barcelona then travelled to 13th placed Granada - and the disasters continued, with Granada picking up a famous 1-0 victory, effectively putting Barcelona out of this seasons title contention.

You’d imagine with the exit from the Champions League, and potentially La Liga, that Barcelona would turn up with faultless passion and desire to win the Copa del Rey. Yet the Catalonian giants turned up, but delivered a horrific, unwilling performance.

‘Tata’ and his squad had critics to prove wrong, but left the Mestalla with more questions asked than answered.

Losing three games in a row for any club isn’t going to help the atmosphere; but with such high demands and ritual to follow, with trophies to win, they have been slumped out of all three major competitions. Twice to massive rivals. A big, and very bitter pill to swallow.

The biggest worry for the people in and around the club is that this isn’t something the club are use too. Messi, horrendously out of form; and many clubs, of recent seem to mark him as if he played Sunday League.

A manager who isn’t deemed ‘acceptable’ and looks like he’s on the move back to Argentina, and a squad who are aging, and many are linked away from the Camp Nou.

An enormous summer is set ahead for Barca. A new manager will be needed to revitalise the morale, with a fresh injection of positivity is definitely needed after such an unanticipated campaign.

Te club's transfer embargo will be a huge obstacle, but will the club's history, tradition, scale and global support be enough?

The summer of 2014 will be interesting.
