This summer presents a relatively unique period where we could see a number of captain changes at some of Europe’s most prominent clubs. Manchester United are set to lose Nemanja Vidic, while Carles Puyol will call time on his Barcelona career.

Arsenal could also be forced into a change of captain should they decide to part ways with Thomas Vermaelen during the transfer window, and Real Madrid could lose Iker Casillas if he is unable to regain his position as the club’s No.1.

There are still doubts at Chelsea where John Terry has yet to sign a new contract, and various other changes could be made across the top leagues before the start of the next campaign.
