If you were watching Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey triumph over Barcelona then you were probably left speechless as Gareth Bale single handedly gifted his team the cup with a magnificent solo effort upon 84 minutes played.

But whilst the morning papers may wax lyrical about the way the Welshman effortlessly glided past Marc Bartra to grab a late winner and turn himself into a local hero, in reality he’s scored better. Sure, the stakes were high and the pressure was on, but the goal at the Mestalla wasn’t even the best he’s scored, let alone the best that the footballing world has witnessed.

However, it did serve as a timely reminder of the awe-inspiring effect an incredible solo effort can have, and it prompted us to do a little research in order to pay homage to the greatest individual goals ever caught on camera.
