The first round of the NBA Playoffs is nearly upon us.

This weekend sixteen teams from across the Eastern and Western Conferences will pit their wits again each other in a bid to go all the way to the Finals - all aware that only eight teams can continue into the postseason after the first best-of-seven series end.

Which makes the tasks facing number eight sees the Dallas Mavericks and the Atlanta Hawks all the more daunting.

But while many people may already be writing the lower ranked teams off before a free throw has even been made in this year's competition we thought we would spread a little hope with a trip down memory lane.

Here GMS takes a look at the most memorable first round upsets ever to occur in the history of the NBA Playoffs.
