The NHL gives out a stupid fine to head coach

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville has been fined $25,000 by the NHL for his 'obscene' gesture in the Blackhawks game with the St Louis Blues on Thursday night.

When the puck left the ice during the game, the officials gathered to decide if the Blues should be called for delay of game- which would have given the Blackhawks a 5-on-3 advantage for 36 seconds.

Quenneville was seen on camera trying to draw their attention to the fact that the puck had gone over the glass surrounding the ice.

Then when the decision went against the Blackhawks, Quenneville grabbed his groin area and yelled something to the officials.

Fair enough he lost his cool and his conduct was somewhat inappropriate, but it was really funny.

From a fans perspective it was funny and as a fan of a team you can understand his outburst, no fan has ever watched their team without feeling anger over a bad decision in the game.

$25,000 is a lot of money, often when players are fined for really bad hits that could have injured opposition players they aren't given half that so are the NHL being a bit too strict?
