Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is lining up a move for a player Manchester United manager David Moyes rejected during his time at Everton.
According to Goal.com, the City manager wants to bring Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi to the Etihad Stadium. Moyes let Mustafi leave Goodison Park during the United boss’s time at Everton, allowing the young defender to depart for nothing after making just a single appearance for the club.
Mustafi has impressed since making the move to Italy, with Juventus also believed to be tracking the 22-year-old. He’s made 31 appearances for Sampdoria this season, and the centre-back even won a call-up to the Germany national team squad ahead of the World Cup this summer.
City are exploring their options with the summer transfer window looming. And defence remains an area of concern for Pellegrini with Martin Demichelis failing to impress since his free transfer move.
Joleon Lescott is all but certain to depart this summer, while Serbian international Matija Nastasic has found it difficult to stay fit enough to make an impact this season.
Likewise United are also likely to spend big at the end of the season, although the report does not mention the Old Trafford club as a potential suitor for Mustafi.
