David Moyes' miserable reign at Old Trafford was finally brought to a conclusion on Monday morning, with Manchester United confirming via the medium of their official website that the Scot had departed the club with immediate effect.

It was always likely to be a terribly difficult task to replace the legendary figure of Sir Alex Ferguson, but Moyes had led a team who won their 20th top-flight title at a canter just a year ago to seventh in the Premier League - a feat not remotely good enough by anyone's standards.

His departure from such a reputable job after just 295 days got us thinking here at GMS, who are some other managers to have flopped badly on the biggest club stage?

Here, we take a look at eight who just couldn't get the job done for a club at the top level*.
