Atletico Madrid star Juanfran has revealed that not only does he still believe Fernando Torres is one of the best strikers in the world, but that the Spaniard remains ultimately loyal to his boyhood club.

Torres made 243 appearances in the red and white strip of Atletico at the beginning of his career, but has since gone on to play important roles at both Liverpool and Chelsea. However now, on the eve of the Champions League semi-final clash between his current side and the club which moulded him into one of Europe’s most feared forwards, Torres' favourite team remain Atletico.

“I am not looking forward to lining up against Fernando Torres,” Juanfran said, according to Goal.

“I think he is one of the best players in the world.

“Everyone knows that Fernando is red and white at heart, but he will want to help Chelsea to win.”

Juanfran then went onto state his belief that Torres will return to his old haunt once he decides to call time on his career in west London. Following a bumpy few years at Stamford Bridge, in which the 30-year-old has struggled to live up to his prolific reputation, the Spain international has been widely tipped to leave Chelsea at the end of this season.

“In the future he may return [to Atletico]. He is a great player and the big players always have a place at Atletico Madrid,” Juanfran concluded.
