The Brooklyn Nets had Paul Pierce to thank after securing a 94-87 victory of the Toronto Raptors in Game One of their NBA Playoff match up.
The veteran put in a sublime performance when it mattered, scoring nine of his 15 points in the final quarter as the Nets looked to secure a win.
His exploits led to the former Boston Celtics forward receiving plaudits from all corners, with reporters and fans alike wondering just how he can be so confident in the big moments.
And Pierce himself was quick to agree that not everyone has the ability to perform under such pressure:
"I think it's in the DNA," the 36-year old responded when asked to explain just how he became so clutch.
"Everybody doesn't have it. Everybody's not born with it. Can't buy it at Costco or Walgreen's. It's in the DNA," Pierce continued.
That does explain why Pierce has managed to remain at the top of the game for the past 16 years, and also saves any unnecessary trips to your local super market.
As for the Brooklyn Nets, they will look to build on the 1-0 series lead they currently hold when they take on the Raptors tonight in Toronto.
