Manchester United target labelled "perfect" to replace Moyes

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes that Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is the “perfect” man to replace David Moyes at Old Trafford, following the Scot’s official dismissal this morning.

The list of candidates who could take over at the Manchester giants had been steadily growing with the increasing speculation that Moyes would be relieved of his duties, and now that his departure has been confirmed the plausible shortlist has been narrowed to three men, with Klopp joined by current Holland head coach Louis van Gaal and veteran player Ryan Giggs.

However Carragher, who has become a well-respected pundit since hanging up his boots at the back end of last season, believes there’s only one man who should realistically be offered the role, lest the club want a repeat of Moyes’ failings.

“Klopp is a young, up and coming manager, full of energy, full of personality, and the way his teams play is the way you want to see Manchester United play - with pace and energy, going forward, on the front foot," said Carragher, according to Sky Sports.

"Van Gaal is the elder statesman, the one with the experience, the CV, maybe even the ego to take on Manchester United. But with his age, being in the World Cup with Holland when probably Manchester United will want to be signing players, speaking to players, that might prove difficult.

"If it was down to those two or three, with Ryan Giggs, it would be Jurgen Klopp. He's done a great job at Dortmund, almost won the Champions League and I think he'd be a better fit than Louis van Gaal."

"[Whoever succeeds Moyes] needs to inject pace and energy into this team," he said.

"When I think of that team, I think of power and pace and going for teams - but I watched them at Goodison and it wasn't like watching a Manchester United team. It was slow and it was predictable.

"I think [they need to get] back to the United way of pacey players in wide areas, going for the throat, as they have always done over the last two decades. That's why I think, watching those Dortmund teams, Jurgen Klopp would be the perfect fit."

However, despite Carragher’s opinion reports published earlier on today don’t paint a pretty picture for United. Klopp has said he has no interest in moving clubs, and so the powers that be at Old Trafford may have to focus their intentions on either Van Gaal or Giggs.
