Sean Dyche's Burnley confirmed their promotion to the Premier League on Monday after beating Wigan Athletic 2-0 at Turf Moor.

The Clarets return to the big time for the first time since 2010 when they were relegated after just one season.

Before a ball was kicked, many tipped Burnley for a difficult season, with some suggesting they could even be heading for relegation to League One. Top scorer Charlie Austin was sold to QPR, and Dyche had to work on a shoestring budget, heavily relying on free transfers and the loan market.

Burnley's form has been remarkable, though. They started the season in fantastic form and on October 1 they moved to the top of the Championship following a 2-0 victory away to Doncaster and the Lancashire club haven't looked back since.

Here, we take a look at five other occasions when a Championship side have upset the apple cart and been promoted to the Premier League against all the odds.
