Dear David Moyes,
As a Manchester United fan you have frustrated me this season. We have lost many matches we are not used to losing, we are not going to be in the Champions League next season, and we are nowhere near the battle for the English Premier League crown.
Despite all the losses though, I trusted you. Sir Alex Ferguson picked you and you had been very successful in managing Everton Football Club. I welcomed you to the club and was excited for your reign.
The start was a bit shaky. I was cautiously delighted with the Community Shield victory and ecstatic following the 4-1 away win to Swansea on opening day.
Things slipped down a bit after that, but I always had hope.
The victory against Arsenal was the point where I thought the season would turn around, but it never did.
Then we beat Olympiakos 3-0, but our season did not turnaround at that point either.
An encouraging performance against Bayern Munich seemed more like an anomaly then a revival.
But at Manchester United we have a way of doing things. We give our managers time to learn how to manage a global brand rather than just a football club. I am sure you would have learned the ropes soon enough.
I have to say I am sorry for how some Manchester United fans have treated you. They tried to taint your image with awful banners and profane chants. Social media sites were trending such phrases as 'Moyes out' and, sarcastically, 'Moyes is a football genius'.
As supporters of the club we have an obligated duty to support our managers. No matter the success or the failure, we stand by whoever is leading us.
And although I can say I stood by you from the beginning to the end, I am sorry to know that some people did not.
As you depart to new challenges I wish you all the best. Maybe you were not the right guy for the Man Utd job, but there are certainly other clubs that would love to have a competent manager such as you leading their team.
So while I feel we have been unjust in letting you go and wrongful in our lack of support at times I want to wish you all the best in the future.
Wherever you go I will continue to support you, unless you are playing Manchester United.
So thank you, David Moyes, for the good memories you have given us. I will always remember that 3-0 victory over Olympiakos and I will continue to enjoy the creative play of Adnan Januzaj and Juan Mata.
You are a good man and a good manager and I wish you all the best.
A faithful Manchester United supporter
