Previous World Cup best - 3rd 1998
Manager - Niko Kovac
A veteran of two World Cup's as a player, Kovac is now in charge of the next generation of Croatian talent. He may lack experience as a manager but he'll command respect from his squad having captained the side at the 2006 World Cup and 2008 European Championships.
Star Player - Luka Modric
Modric has started to impose himself as a key man in the Real Madrid side and that can only be a good thing for Croatia. The midfield maestro can control the tempo of the game from deep or create chances higher up the pitch.
One to Watch - Dejan Lovren
Injury robbed Lovren of his chance to represent Croatia at Euro 2012 and he'll be desperate to make up for lost time in Brazil. The Southampton man may be 26 but this will be his first chance to prove he really belongs at the top of world football.
Chances - Second Round
Croatia have every chance of progressing from the group stage and will fight it out with Mexico to join Brazil in the second round. However, they'll likely face Spain or Holland in the second round which will be a step too far for Kovac and his men.
