Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj has elected to represent Belgium in international football, according to national coach Marc Wilmots.

Wilmots, who has been in charge of Belgium since 2012, announced on his Twitter account earlier today the news that brings England’s hopes to an end of acquiring the talented winger.

“I have received official confirmation that Adnan Januzaj has made himself available to the Belgian national team,” said the 45-year-old who has previously worked under Belgium as an assistant to Dick Advocaat and Georges Leekens before becoming manager.

Januzaj, who was born in the Belgian capital of Brussels, has Kosovan-Albanian parents. The 19-year-old could have represented Kosovo, Albania, Turkey, Serbia and even England in the future but has chosen his country of birth Belgium.

The Manchester United youngster impressed Sir Alex Ferguson towards the end of last season enough to gain a squad number and make the bench for the final Premier League game of the season against West Bromwich Albion.

He went away with the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of Asia last summer and since then has worked his way in and been a regular member of the playing squad this season making 31 appearances in total and scoring four goals.

David Moyes departure from Old Trafford this week has seen Ryan Giggs take over the reigns and so Januzaj will be looking to force his way into the Welshman’s plans for the final League fixtures of the season.

With his international future now cleared up, Januzaj can focus on his football with United for the remainder of this campaign and hope to impress Wilmots enough to squeeze his way into the Belgium squad for the 2014 World Cup this summer in Brazil.
