Brandon Dubinsky scored the game tying goal with 24 seconds left in the third period.
Nick Foligno scored the game winning goal just a few minutes into the overtime period to complete the incredible comeback.
With this 4-3 win, the Columbus Blue Jackets have tied the series at two games each. Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves on the night to help his team tie the series.
This game was filled with careless penalties that led to some beautiful goals. I believe this game had far too many penalties. But at least the fans got a high scoring game as a result of all the penalties.
The Pittsburgh Penguins scored early through Craig Adams shorthanded goal. Chris Kunitz and James Neal scored shortly after to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead. I have to say that I assumed this game to be all but over when the Penguins got that early 3-0 lead.
But this Blue Jackets team just kept fighting and putting all kinds of pressure on Penguins goaltender Marc Andrea Fluery. The Jackets were finally rewarded when Boon Jenner scored late in the first period to give the Jackets some life.
Ryan Johansen followed up with a powerplay goal in the second period to steal all the momentum from the Penguins. The Jackets outshot the Penguins 46-25 in this game.
The Blue Jackets success in the faceoff circle also had a huge impact in this game. The Jackets won the majority of the faceoffs beating the Penguins 39-29 on the night. Fleury did his best to keep his team in it, stopping 42 shots. But a weak goal in overtime cost the Penguins the game.
One thing is certain both these teams will look to be far more disciplined in the next game. There were a few positives for Pittsburgh to take away from this loss.
Marc Andrea Fleury played his best game of the series so far. Evgeni Malkin was involved all throughout the game, linking up well with Crosby, and getting some pretty decent chances.
And finally, Chris Kunitz and James Neal both scored goals. The challenge for the Penguins will now be to continue that rhythm, score early and feed off the energy of the home crowd.
The question will be if Marc Andrea Fluery can find some consistency within his game and shut down the Jackets at home. Fluery has not looked good for the Penguins at all until tonight in my opinion.
The Columbus Blue Jackets must keep the game close, and Bobrovsky has to steal the show if the Jackets hope to win on the road. If they can outshoot the Penguins on the road, the Jackets could easily come away with the win and the lead in the series. I can’t wait to see who will win the next game
