Recent quotes coming out of the Tennessee Titans have indicated that the team would be interested in selecting a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Some rumors have linked the Titans with former Alabama passer AJ McCarron although according to Jim Wyatt that interest has now ended.
Wyatt, a beat writer for the Tennessean, tweeted today: "Alabama QB A.J. McCarron was scheduled for a predraft visit this month w #Titans, but missed it because he said he was sick. Was not resked"
The fact that the Titans did not reschedule with McCarron definitely implies that they will now be looking at other targets during the draft. In fact the second and third round is likely to be littered with good but not great quarterback prospects.
Tom Savage, Jimmy Garrapolo, Derek Carr, Zach Mettenberger could all be in that range and all have seemed to climb draft boards whilst McCarron is going in the opposite direction.
McCarron's dip does seem odd considering his exceptional success at Alabama, however the quarterback has made a number of odd decisions this offseason.
He skipped out on the Senior Bowl with an injury and although he put in a decent showing at the NFL combine, he has also been involved in talks for a reality show with his fiance Katherine Webb.
Despite being involved in the Heisman trophy shortlist, McCarron has never really been mentioned as a first round prospect and could well find himself still on the board well into the middle rounds.
Considering this fall, it seems very unwise to miss out on any meetings with interested teams, even in the case of illnesses.
Of course we don't know the nature of the illness at this stage but you can only wonder how severe it could have been for McCarron to miss out on what could have been a life-changing job interview.
