Following Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner's statement about the future of the club, Paul Lambert has claimed anyone that failed to understand the statement is "not clever."
In his time with Villa, American owner, Randy Lerner, has been known to shy away from the media, and very much kept his business 'in house'.
But his silence was broken last week as he publicly announced he would be addressing issues to do with the club's future in the summer, once the season has ended.
Speaking about rumours that the club could be sold, Lerner said: “Following the point yesterday at Villa Park, there have been stories about my selling the club... As regards my personal role at the club and the steady rumours of a sale, I will address these after the season.”
The announcement was greeted with scepticism by the Aston Villa faithful, with some fans suggesting Lerner should have been clearer in his statement to put some of the ongoing rumours to bed.
Lambert says there is no confusion, though. The former Norwich boss felt the owner's statement was clear, and that everyone should respect his decisions.
The Scot told reporters: "“His statement to me was pretty clear,. He will address everything at the end of the season and I think everybody’s got to respect that.
“This is his club so you’ve got to respect his decision. It will become clear I’m pretty sure when he decides to say what he’s got to say. I’m totally relaxed about everything.
“He’s obviously come out and said that I had to work within parameters that he’s set so everybody’s got a clear indication of that. But he’s the owner of this club and has been a fantastic owner since he worked in.
“I think if people read into the statement and are quite clever about it they’ll understand. If you’re not clever you’ll not pick it up. That’s the bottom line.”
Lambert has come in for heavy criticism himself recently, with some sections of the Villa Park supporters calling for Lambert to be replaced in the summer.
The Villains haven't progressed following last season's disappointment and face another fight to stay in the top-flight as the season draws to a close.
