However, every winter is followed by a thaw which brings a fresh start even in some of the most unforgiving of places.
In this instance spring is a very magical time in the Bundesliga, with both small and mighty sides waking up from their winter slumber, shaking of their leaves of discontent and blossoming in the face of league survival.
This season there are up to eight sides that are in danger of losing their first tier league status, with some Bundesliga household names also in serious danger of suffering relegation.
With the mix set, and the oven wide open it is now time to see which teams will escape the heat and the burning hell of the second Bundesliga.
