Ryan Giggs has many similar characteristics to Pep Guardiola and may turn out to be just as successful. That's the view of Richard Keys.

The former Sky Sports anchorman took to his evermore popular blog to comment on the the Manchester United legend, who has taken charge of the squad following the sacking of David Moyes.

The Manchester United board seem intent on hiring a new high-profile manager for next season, but Giggs has four games to stake his claim to become their new permanent manager.

Keys is backing Giggs all the way and believes the 40-year-old could be as good as Guardiola, who came to prominence in similar style at Barcelona.

Keys said: "Giggs might just be the answer to United's prayers. He might just be 'new' Guardiola. There are many similarities.

"But he'll need more than the 'Class of 92' to help if that's to be the case."

Guardiola was given a chance to impress at Barcelona after impressing for Barcelona B and went on to create possibly one of the greatest club teams the world has ever seen.

Of course Guardiola was helped by the presence of Lionel Messi and Giggs has plenty of barriers in his way, not least Manchester United pursuit of Louis van Gaal.

The Dutch national coach has been placed as favourite to take over at Old Trafford next season regardless of how well United do under Giggs.
