Has the Jose Mourinho bubble finally burst?

Published 15 Comments

Is the Mourinho mystique finally wearing thin?

We, as a football loving public, can only hope so.

A top manager? Of course. Entertaining? Sure, on occasion. Spoilt, arrogant and self-centred? Without question.

And this isn't a recent phenomena.

Ever since Mourinho arrived on the big European stage with that 'I'm so passionate/point the cameras at me' celebration against Manchester United, Mourinho has been forging a reputation as a self-assured leader of men, not afraid to ruffle a few feathers.

But now? That self-assuredness is often manifested as arrogance, his ability to lead men doesn't seem to stretch to the entire Real Madrid dressing room and he's ruffling feathers on an almost daily basis.

His attacks on fellow managers are becoming more frequent, personal and indeed rude, whilst his contradictions are almost laughable.

After lamenting Sam Allardyce's West Ham following a battling 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge, the self-proclaimed 'Special One' has been guilty of the same on more than one occasion, including Tuesday night's first leg draw against Atletico Madrid.

For a long time the general public appeared to cling on every word the former Inter Milan manager uttered, although that appears to be changing.

People are wising up to his callousness and disingenuous nature.

Should Mourinho follow through with his plan to field a weakened side in Sunday's crunch clash with Liverpool - thus surrendering the trophy and single-handedly ruining the title race in the process - don't be surprised if many more see through the Mourinho mystique.
