Arsenal have joined north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck in a £20million deal this summer.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the 23-year-old is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, in search of regular football in his preferred position of centre forward.
It was reported that Welbeck had grown increasingly frustrated by his lack of action under the former tutelage of David Moyes, but even after the former Everton manager's departure, he continues to be linked with an exit.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for a replacement for Olivier Giroud at the Emirates Stadium, and is seriously considering a bid for the want-away Manchester United star.
Arsenal will face competition from Spurs for the England international's signature, as Tim Sherwood also considers an attempt to lure him to White Hart Lane.
Welbeck currently has two years remaining on his Manchester United contract, but could be sold in order to raise funds for a planned overhaul of the first-team squad.
He remains high on Tottenham's list of summer transfer priorities, but might prefer to join Arsenal if they secure a top four finish and qualify for the Champions League.
