Less than 50 days now separate the vast hordes of footballing fans from the Holy Grail of the sport; the World Cup.

This summer’s festivities in Brazil have naturally captured the attentions and subsequent imaginations of virtually every supporter on the planet, though all most probably have very different ideas on which nation will be named the new champions of world football in the coming months. The usual suspects are all competing in Brazil, and with a number of surprise packages emerging as realistic contenders in recent times, this World Cup could well be one of the most enthralling yet.

Will it be the ever-consistent Spaniards who claim an unprecedented fourth major international trophy in a row? Will the home nation’s flair overcome all? Will the industrial brilliance of Germany take the tournament by storm or will it be a dark horse like Belgium or Uruguay who cause an upset?
