Racism has always affected football from the very beginning to today and there have been many organisations set up to deal with racism and racists in world football, but in last night's La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona Dani Alves came up with a new way of fighting racism.

As you can see in the video above when a banana was thrown onto the pitch Alves before taking a corner, walked over, peeled the banana and ate it then continued on with the game.

His act was met with all round applause and has been praised by everybody in the world of football.

Although what he did had a comical side to it the message was quite serious. Football must get rid of racism once and for all. Although eating a banana is not going to solve anything it shows racists what they do while watching football is unintelligent and immature.

Hopefully we see tighter sanctions imposed on racism in football but eating a banana that was thrown at you by a spectator is certainly a good way to start.
