Chelsea plot player + cash hijack for top £37m Man United target

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is attempting to hijack Manchester United’s move for Portuguese starlet William Carvalho, by offering Marko Marin plus cash for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, according to A Bola.

Carvalho, who has long been considered one of United’s top targets for the summer transfer window, has a release clause of £37million but it’s believed that Chelsea want to lower that by sending a player of their own in the other direction. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest emerging talents in Europe, and it would be some coup if Mourinho could take him to Stamford Bridge.

The controversial nature of the deal would only be heightened by the fact that some sources have claimed in recent days that Carvalho has virtually agreed a deal in principle with United, though the club haven’t released any official statement. A Bola claims that Mourinho wants to add fringe player Marin to the proposal, as the player doesn’t have a future in west London.

The 25-year-old has been on loan at Sevilla since 2013, but is seemingly regarded more as a bargaining chip than a potential future first-team player.
