Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has given his backing for Louis van Gaal to be named as David Moyes’ successor, by stating that the Dutchman is the best manager he has ever worked under.
The famous former Red Devils ‘keeper, who played under Van Gaal at Ajax – where he is now a director – offered a strong recommendation to United chiefs that the 62-year-old is the man who they should be looking to appoint. Recent reports suggest that Van Gaal is indeed favourite to be named as the next United manager, but there are others such as Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp in the frame.
However Van der Sar, who of course also served under Sir Alex Ferguson for a number of years, claims that Van Gaal is the best around, according to a report in the Mirror.
He said: "I will say more about Louis and United once his appointment his official "But I have made it clear here before that Louis van Gaal is the best manager I have ever played for.''
Van Gaal will step down from his position as head coach of the Holland national side after this summer’s World Cup, and it’s looking increasingly like his next position will be at the Old Trafford helm.
