Napoli have sounded out Manchester United over the possibility of signing Danny Welbeck, according to the Daily Express.

Welbeck is rumoured to have grown disillusioned with life at Old Trafford as he is yet to hold down a starting spot in Manchester United's first team.

The 23-year-old had made just 14 Premier League starts this season, which has raised doubts over his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Premier League duo Tottenham and Everton were said to be leading the race to sign the Manchester United forward, however Serie A side Napoli have now made a move to entice Welbeck to Italy.

Reports suggest Napoli chief Riccardo Bigon held a meeting with Welbeck's agent about Genk defensive midfielder Kalidou Koulibaly - but also asked to be kept in the loop regarding the England international.

Welbeck, who progressed through the ranks at Manchester United, may want to find out the identity of the Premier League champions' new manager before making a final decision on his future.

Napoli, on the other hand, want to conclude a deal for the striker before he jets off to Brazil as they are fearful Manchester United's apparent £10million valuation could escalate if Welbeck has a good World Cup.
