With the NFL draft just over one week away, and some teams still weighing up their options ahead of the big day, the Houston Texans know exactly who they will take with the number one pick.
Texans general manager Rick Smith was in no doubt when asked if he and the Texans hierarchy had finalized their draft plans:
"I absolutely know who I want," explained Smith via the franchise's official website.
The two most likely candidates for that mystery pick are thought to be Johnny Manziel, and Jadeveon Clowney with the latter currently the favorite to hear his name read out first at Radio City Music Hall.
Of course Smith was never going to reveal exactly who the player was, but he did admit that they may be willing to reconsider should another team come up with a trade offer they couldn't refuse:
"Now where the game is played is if there's an opportunity to move and, in this case, obviously move back if somebody else wants to come up to that first pick," said Smith.
"Then you weigh what the opportunities are versus who the individual is that you want to take and what that value is relative to the value that somebody might be offering you."
The rumors will continue to circulate right up until the commissioner makes the announcement and Smith's comments will only add to the speculation, with the GM clearly leaving the door open for a trade should another team be desperate to land that top pick.
