Pittsburgh Penguins star, Sidney Crosby has been named among the finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy for most valuable player, the NHL have announced.

Crosby is joined by Anaheim Ducks' Ryan Getzlaf and Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers are also finalists of the award which is currently held by Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

The Penguins star last won the award in 2007, whilst his fellow finalists have never won the award.

All three finalists guided their team to the playoffs this season, although Giroux's Flyers were eliminated last night by New York Rangers.

Crosby is sure to be the favorite for the award after he led the league with 104 points this season. Getzlaf must also be considered after the Ducks finished atop the Western Conference with the second best record in the whole of the NHL.
