The majority of WWE fans left New Orleans extremely happy when they witnessed Daniel Bryan defeat Triple H earlier on in the show, before going on to defeat Randy Orton and Dave Batista to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

But that wasn't the original plan, according to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer radio show; the original plan was for Dave Batista to go on and win the match, becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the process.

News outlets announced the WWE return of 'The Animal' before the WWE; and the company had no choice but to announce that Batista was in fact returning by airing a vignette on the 23 December 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw. It was then revealed that Batista was going to enter the Royal Rumble match and as fans, we knew that Batista was definitely a frontrunner to go ahead and win the match.

We now know that Batista did in fact go on and win the Royal Rumble match after he eliminated The Shield's Roman Reigns to reign supreme in the main event, as he then guaranteed himself a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at the main event of WrestleMania.

It's fair to say that Batista wasn't met with the warmest of reactions by the fans, the WWE would have expected the fans to embrace the return of Batista and be on his side as he would go one-on-one against the heel of the feud against the champion at that time; Randy Orton.

The fans made their feelings clear, but the issue surrounding Batista's return was that the company went ahead and announced his return once it was leaked. They could have ignored the rumours and still surprised the fans a little but by going ahead and announcing that Batista was returning - especially at that stage in the year - it was obvious that he was going to win the Royal Rumble.

His improvised heel turn was a big positive and this turn allowed Daniel Bryan to enter the feud in some capacity. At WrestleMania fans predicted that Randy Orton would not walk out as champion, but it would between Daniel Bryan who would finally get his WrestleMania moment, or Batista who will have returned specifically at that point to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Batista is scheduled to take some time off after Extreme Rules, where he will reunite with Evolution members Triple H and Randy Orton to take on The Shield in a six-man tag team match. He is currently not advertised for any shows after Extreme Rules this Sunday, even though it was believed he would work through to July, before beginning his media duties to promote his upcoming Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy.

WWE fans - are you happy with Daniel Bryan as WWE World Heavyweight Champion? Or would you have preferred the original plan to put the gold on another part-timer in Dave Batista? Have your say in the comments section below or come discuss all things WWE with me on Twitter @RazK28.
