Former professional footballer and Sky Germany personality Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Arsenal have cooled their interest in Julian Draxler and that the Schalke starlet could be in line for a switch to Bayern Munich next season.

Arsenal - as well as Pep Guardiola's Bundesliga giants - have been frequently linked with a move for Draxler for several months now, with the saga having arguably done further damage to Arsene Wenger's increasingly vulnerable reputation among certain Gunners supporters.

With the future of the 20-year-old still the subject of much speculation, it appears that Arsenal may not go back in for his services after all.

"As tweeted before: Arsenal have cooled their interest," Fjortoft - who won 71 caps for his native Norway during a lengthy playing career and now works as a pundit and entrepreneur - commented on social networking website Twitter.

"Bayern could take him NEXT season. But he needs to improve."

If those words are indeed accurate, then Arsenal fans will presumably be left somewhat disappointed.

Although he may not have scored as many goals as he would have liked domestically so far this season, Draxler - who has already earned 10 senior international caps for his native Germany - is a phenomenally gifted young midfielder who is surely set for a long and fruitful career at the elite level.

While it is unclear at this stage what may have led to Arsenal to cool their interest in Draxler, one might well assume that his rather exorbitant £37 million price tag could have been a factor.

Last summer's spontaneous purchase of Mesut Ozil aside, Arsenal and Wenger have been somewhat frugal in the transfer market over recent years and it could well be that such a figure is deemed far too high for a player with such limited experience.
